jefferson countyWhen most people think of Tennessee, they imagine the big cities like Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville and Chattanooga. They are the big cities of Tennessee. Other people may also think of Pigeon Forge, the home of Dollywood. In all cases, for still another group of people who want to escape the bright lights of the big cities and the thrill of an Appalachian theme park, they may favor a place like Jefferson County, Tennessee.

What’s In Jefferson County?

Jefferson County is located about 50 minutes north east of  Pigeon Forge. It is a quaint little area with approximately 54,495 people as of the 2010 census. In this area, you will find some pretty cool things to see and do.

You can visit Glenmore Mansion, the Cherokee Dam, Centennial Park, or the Patriot Hills Golf Club, just to name a few. If you love the water, Cherokee Lake is a great place to go boating.

There are also several small cities you can visit while here. Most are rich in history. For instance, you can visit Jefferson City, which is an area that was named for Thomas Jefferson, the 3rd President of the United States. You may also want to visit Dandridge is a town in Jefferson that was named for Martha Dandridge Washington, wife of George Washington, our first President.

Other areas of interest include New Market, White Pine, Strawberry Plains, and Baneberry.

Where to Stay While Visiting

Bella Villa BNBIn this area, you have several options when it comes to where to rest your weary head. You can rent houses that have a great view of the mountains. There are motels, hotels, and some outstanding Bed and Breakfast locations.

The Point Resort and Mountain Harbor are only two examples of where to stay. Others include Econo-Lodges, Hampton Inns, and more. If you want a more “romantic” area to stay, the Bella Villa is worth considering. The rooms are amazing and there are some wonderful amenities as well.

Planning Your Trip

December, January, and February are the coldest months for you to visit Jefferson county with an average low in the 30s and an average high around 50-degrees. By May, temperatures will typically warm up to a low of around 60 and a high of near 80-degrees. July, with an average high of nearly 90 and a low average of 67 is the warmest month.

Therefore, it depends on what you want to do while you are visiting as to the best time of the year to visit. Lake fun will mean you want warmer temperatures, but warmer may not be best if you want to travel into the nearby mountains.

The summer months are also more likely to have rain, which could put a damper on your vacation. This is a common problem for most places though.
